Why Mentoring?

One of the biggest questions yoga teachers have after completing their 200 hour training is “now what?”. Many do not leave a 200 hour program feeling ready to take on the full responsibility of teaching. With so much new information yet to be assimilated, and very little practical teaching experience many new teachers wish they could continue their studies but aren’t quite ready to jump into a 300 or 500 hour training.

With my yoga mentorship program new teachers will have an opportunity to deepen their studies, practice their skills, and develop as a teacher under the personal guidance of an experienced teacher.

About program: Over the course of 3 months you will be supported in deepening your knowledge and skill through the following components.

  • Private Mentorship Sessions: We will have an initial consultation to discuss your goals and objectives, and then meet for a weekly 90 minute discussion session wherein we will focus on topics that build depth of knowledge and teaching skill, including business of yoga, classroom management, and others that will help you achieve your goals and objectives. You will be given reading and written assignments to support your growth (20 hours)

  • Asana Practice: You are required to attend 1 class per week with your mentor, can attend class virtually (but must be live). (12 hours)

  • Observation/Assisting: Initially you will observe your mentor teaching class with time afterward to ask questions about sequencing, alignment cues, hands on assisting, classroom management, etc. During this time you will also be asked to participate in hands on assisting in the classroom, and lead small portions of the practice. (8-12 hours)

  • Practical teaching: During the last 4 weeks of the program you will have the opportunity to teach 4 full length classes with your mentor observing. This practical experience teaching in a working yoga studio setting is an invaluable opportunity to gain confidence in your teaching and receive feedback that students don’t often offer. (4-6 hours)

  • Personal study: Throughout the three months you will be assigned reading and writing assignments as well as other projects to support your growth and development. (10-15 hours)

At the end of the program you will have completed 65 additional hours of study and have gained real teaching experience, setting you up for a successful career as a yoga teacher. You will also be eligible to receive 65 hours of continuing education with Yoga Alliance upon completion of this program.
